Not everyone knows, but curtains serve more than just privacy. With the right selection, they can become a bright accent, beautiful decor, and most importantly, they can correct the shortcomings of a disproportionate window. How is this possible? Let's look at popular options and solutions to the problem.
Asymmetrical arrangement
A frequent occurrence is a window not in the middle of the wall, but somewhere on the edge, almost in the corner. In this case, the standard set of curtains that everyone is used to will look bad, to put it mildly. On the one hand, the curtains will turn out to be too "liquid", but near the wall, on the contrary, they will be very knocked down. In this case, the way out is quite simple - instead of two, hang one long curtain from a wide edge. Do not mistake the length, the curtain should completely cover the window with a small margin.
Narrow windows
The most effective solution to the narrow window problem is an optical illusion. It is extremely simple to create it: it is necessary that the cornice protrudes from each side of the window by at least 25 centimeters, which means that in total it must be at least 0.5 meters more. Otherwise, the curtains will turn out to be almost the width of the opening and visually the whole room will look smaller than it actually is.
The best solution is a cornice for the entire width of the wall, then the window will appear an order of magnitude wider, like the entire room. Sheer curtains together with blackout curtains will be a great combination. The former will provide an uninterrupted flow of natural light into the house, and the latter will provide privacy and another visual deception. In the open position, they will cover the walls, making it difficult to assess the real size of the window, which, of course, plays into our hands.
In the case when the window is obscenely narrow, a Roman blind can become a lifeline. Its peculiarity is that you can choose a model that merges with the walls in color and pattern, so that the transition becomes as invisible as possible. Having become one with the wall, the curtain will visually smooth out the height of the window, making it wider and more pleasing to the eye.
Small windows
If the interior of the room is light and with walls neutral in color, then it is preferable not to curtain small windows with anything so that natural light unhindered illuminates as large an area as possible. In this case, the feeling of airiness and freedom in the room will smooth out both the size and shape of the window.
But often the question of privacy is more important, or the view from the window is not quite suitable for contemplating it through an uncovered window. Then all the same Roman or roller blinds will come to the rescue.
Low windows
There are situations when the developer makes extremely low windows located at a distance of more than 35 centimeters from the ceiling. It is doubly unpleasant if the ceiling itself is not high. But you should not despair - instead, it is necessary to fix the cornice as high as possible, ideally if it is right under the ceiling, you can even drown it in a specially provided drywall niche. After all, the higher the cornice, the more the disproportionate impression from the low window will be smoothed out.
Windows with balcony door
An L-shaped window design with a descending battery and a door leading to the balcony is a very common option. Convenient - perhaps beautiful - in most cases not, but you can still brighten up the situation. The main rule is not to attract too much attention. People often invent something supernatural in the hope of diverting attention from such a window, but by doing so they only attract attention. It is worth doing exactly the opposite, decorate the opening as if it were an ordinary window, with neutral curtains without a pattern and ornateness.
Windows in a narrow room
An especially inconvenient case for work, when a narrow window is located on a short wall, then the most rational option are both ordinary blinds and pleated blinds. But if the soul lies with textiles, the curtain needs to be beaten a little. Hang it on only one side of the window. Visual interest from such asymmetry will distract attention and add variety to the space. The main thing is that the curtains are transparent or translucent, so as not to interfere with the flow of natural light into the room.
Wide windows
It would seem that bad in a huge window that perfectly illuminates the house, but sometimes this becomes a problem. In this situation, the best solution would be to hang two curtains so that each of them slightly covers the window. Thus, we visually reduce the width of the window without much loss of light.
Another way out of the situation can be additional curtains made of the same fabric as the main ones. These strips can be placed along the length of the window, thereby dividing it into several parts, creating the illusion of correct proportions. Try to do everything symmetrically, placing them at an equal distance from each other.
